Kalee Burrows is a theatre artist, writer, and educator originally from Brookfield, NH. As a performer, Kalee specializes in physical theatre and devising. She was an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Nominee at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, her original devised feminist play “The Empowerment Project” was also performed at KCACTF and Stonehill College.
In addition to being a performer, Kalee is a slam poet and playwright. Her play “Oreos & Sex Noises” was directed and performed in 2012 at the Culture Park Theatre’s 11th Annual Short Plays Marathon. Kalee has performed her spoken word poetry at events such as the South East London Arts Room and The Press Room.
Kalee is a skilled practitioner in devised theatre, directing, meditative visual arts, slam poetry, production coordination, and arts administration. She has taught and worked with young people, adults, and older generations in schools, community centers, and theatre spaces across the globe. These participating organizations and artists include Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Shakespeare & Company's Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer, Boston Lyric Opera, We are London at Ovalhouse, Shanti Bhavan's Children's Project, Artists from Suburbia, Kingswood Children’s Summer Theatre, and Stonehill College. She holds a MA in Applied Theatre: Drama in Educational, Community and Social Contexts from Goldsmiths, University of London, as well as a BA in Theatre Arts and Performance Studies from Stonehill College. Currently, Kalee is the Program Manager and Theatre Teaching Artist for VOICES Boston, a nonprofit youth choir and performing arts organization. She continues to collaborate and create meaningful work through interdisciplinary arts and performance.
